Coconut House wins series of International Awards (SLP Pune, 2017)

Architect Jayneel Trivedi has been honored with series of International Awards for the environmental success of his COCONUT HOUSE Project - world’s first and most affordable house made from waste coconut shells.

He was honored as winner of: - The International Green Apple Award for Built Environment and Architectural Heritage (2017) in BRONZE category (UK) - The International Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice (2017) in GOLD category (UK) - The International Green World Award in Building and Construction (2017) in BRONZE category (Dubai).

He is also honored as the 'Green World Ambassador' representing India at a special ceremony at The Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London for his contribution towards sustainability.

As a result of that success, his winning paper has been published in 'The Green Book', world’s only annual work of reference on environmental best practice that is distributed to environment professionals, universities and libraries around the world by The Green Organisation, so that others around the world can follow his example and learn from their achievement.

The award judges commented, “At £180 this is the world's most affordable and eco-friendly coconut house. Almost 800 coconut shells were reused in its making, and 250 kg of other recycled scrap metal and wood were used from the college campus. Even the vertical garden plantations are made from coconut shells, and a team of almost 30 students was directly involved in the construction. Discarded coconut shells are a menace to the environment, and this demonstrates how they can be put to good use”.
