Nishant is the founder of Embryyo Innovations - a companyubated in the Venture Center at NCL Innovation Park in Pune. He envisions Embryyo to be a center of innovation for appropriate technologies delivering impactful solutions in the field of healthcare delivery and medical devices. Although Embryyo is still in its infancy, the company has recently won the prestigious USAID and Gates Foundation grant for the development of an indigenous drug adherence monitoring system for TB patients. They are also working towards several interesting product ideas in areas of mother & child health and women’s health.
Nishant graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay in 2010 with a Dual Degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his stay at IIT, he developed a passionate interest in the application of engineering priples for the development of meaningful medical technologies. He pursued his interest deeply through a research internship at the University of Munich Hospital in Germany, where he worked with clinical neuroscientists in the development of an eye-gaze tracking device. During his Master’s back at IIT, he designed and developed novel biosensing devices, playing with human blood on microfluidic lab-on-a-chip platforms. These research experiences resulted in international publications and a few patents. After graduation, he worked with Philips Healthcare in Pune, on the design and development of x-ray systems for interventional surgery, where he learnt in detail the nuances of a high-end medical product design lifecycle. He also worked briefly as a Solution Specialist for the Medical Devices Business Unit at Agiliad, a young product engineering services company founded by very senior industry leaders in India. While he is not pursuing his primary areas of interest, he loves to read and brainstorm on diverse topics and help design robots for school children. Nishant is currently a Fellow at the Startup Leadership Program for the 2014 Pune Char.
