Emmanuel Dumont is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University, where he researches protein degradation. Prior to starting his PhD, Emmanuel founded and led an NGO focused on health and energy issues in sub-Saharan Africa. He also has two years of experience in investment banking (Paris, New York, Sao Paulo). When he was in Brazil, Emmanuel contributed to the success of a socially and environmentally responsible luxury hotel in Brazil by devising its business plan and financial model. Emmanuel also designs and builds steel structures; one of his pieces was exhibited at the 2008 Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy.

Kanchan is founder of SwitchBiotics. Prior to this, she completed her PhD at Harvard Medical School in cell, molecular and cancer biology. Her dissertation work with Dr. Alan D’Andrea focused on understanding the molecular underpinnings of Fanconi’s Anemia, an inherited childhood cancer susceptibility syndrome. Kanchan has served as co-managing director of the GSAS Harvard Biotechnology Club, a student organization aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry. During her tenure at the Harvard Biotechnology Club, she has helped raise the visibility and prize money for the annual biotechnology entrepeneurship competition and has forged alliances with leading players in the biopharmaceutical industry. Kanchan has also served as an intern with Flagship Ventures, a leading seed-stage venture creation fund in Cambridge MA helping with intellectual property assessments for a life-science start-up. Kanchan is especially interested in life-science venture creation in the developing world and in alleviating disease through innovation and technology. She was selected as a 2008 Fellow to the Startup Leadership Program in Boston, and launched and ran the program in New York in 2011. In 2011, she was named one of 25 women to watch by Venture Beat, and 30 Founders to follow on twitter by Huffington Post. She has combined her Doctorate in Molecular Biology from Harvard and her training from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to elevate tiny taste buds with science and flavour. She is the founder of Spice Spice Baby, which brings to light the science-backed health benefits of ancient spices and inspires their use in babies’ and kids’ foods in simple, delicious and nutritious ways.

Nayoung Lee Louie Sectors: Life Sciences Nayoung Lee Louie is a project manager for the Discovery to Market at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. She works as a liaison between MBA students and scientists from Hopkins to look at commercial feasibility of university inventions. The inventions include innovation in the areas of medical diagnostics and therapies, medical devices and health information technology. She also serves as an advisor for Health Care Business Association. Nayoung earned her undergraduate degree and Ph. D in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University with research focus in brain imaging and computational anatomy. She was a visiting scholar at UCLA, the University of Washington in Saint Louis, and the University of New South Wales in Australia as a NSF neuroengineering research fellow and a Howard Hughes summer research fellow and is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Alpha Eta Mu. She also worked as a consultant for a start-up stem cell company during graduate school. Nayoung is passionate about transforming discoveries made in academic laboratories to products in market and building entrepreneurial community in Baltimore-Washington DC area. She is a 2012 Fellow in the Startup Leadership Program in New York City. She currently teaches technology commercialization and statistical analysis courses at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.

Sebastian Jayaraj is the co-founder and CEO of 10BioSystems, a New York city based life science/healthcare-IT scientific product development and consulting services company. Prior to this, he worked with Kosan Biosciences (a publicly traded biotech company) as the Associate Director of Information Technology and Research Informatics. He has more than 10 years of experience in the biotechnology sector and has worked in various companies and research labs including Bristol-Myers Squib, Kosan Biosciences, SGX Parma (acquired by Eli Lily), Scient Corporation and at the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS), India. Sebastian holds a Master of Science and Engineering degree in Computer and Information Systems from the University of Pennsylvania and a certification from Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, in Executive leadership, strategy and management. He holds a triple major undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry and environmental sciences from Bangalore University, India.
