Alok SathayeBoston Consulting Group
Alok is currently a consultant at Boston Consulting Group. Prior to this he was a healthcare management consultant with the firm Health Advances. As a Senior Analyst he works to assist biotechnology, medical technology and pharmaceutical firms with new product commercialization strategy, product portfolio prioritization and valuation of new technologies and concepts. Prior to Health Advances, Alok was a Senior Research Scientist in Cardiac Rhythm Management division of Boston Scientific, formerly Guidant. As a Senior Research Scientist, Alok was intimately involved with the ideation, development and implementation of novel device based technologies through bench, pre-clinical and human clinical trial evaluation. He was selected as a 2008 Fellow of the Startup Leadership Program in Boston. Alok is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University where he received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering and a graduate degree in cardiac tissue engineering, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Bedrick Gadea
Bedrick received a PhD from Harvard Medical School and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Following his post-doctoral training, he developed two web-based business, Oncotargets.com and Pulseofthepatient.com. These business focus on providing clinical and economic insights into cancer research advancements and bringing together cancer patients to make better informed decisions. He has published research findings in numerous high-profile scientific journals and received a highly competitive American Cancer Society award for his accomplishments in cancer research. Furthermore, he is a Principal at a strategic life science consulting firm, where he developed the company's oncology capabilities.

Brian Gillette

Brian Gillette is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Sam Sia in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University (www.bme.columbia.edu/~sia). He is also cofounder (with Dr. Sia) of Junco Labs, a startup founded to translate technologies developed in the Sia lab for commercial development. His current research focuses on developing adult stem cell therapies for wound healing, reconstructive surgery and obesity treatment. He obtained his B.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University. He is a 2012 fellow in the Start-up Leadership Program class in New York.

Ji LiColumbia University
Ji Li is a PhD candidate in Genetics & Development at Columbia University. His thesis focuses on the roles of microRNAs and Notch signaling in cell fate specification. He interned with the New York City Investment Fund (NYCIF), where he was responsible for evaluating technology proposals and conducting due diligence for the BioAccelerate NYC Prize. He also interned with Columbia Technology Ventures, where he facilitated technology development for a biotech startup in China. Ji served as President of Columbia Biotechnology Association, and volunteered for Wokai, a nonprofit microfinance organization focusing on China, and and co-founded a city-wide club dedicated to graduate students interested in patent law. Ji holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Peking University. He enjoys Chinese calligraphy, photography, reading, and traveling.

Joanna is the Director of Academic Computing and Digital Library Projects at Wesleyan University, and was healthcare consultant with Strategic Advisor division at Leerink Swann in New York. Her work pharmaceutical and emerging biotechnology companies has encompassed diverse therapeutic areas, including cardiology, gastroenterology, and oncology. Her work has analysis has helped inform clients’ launch/marketing strategies, new product planning, and growth strategies in emerging areas of drug innovation. Prior to joining Leerink Swann, Joanna was a member of the founding team at Angstrom Medica (now Pioneer Surgical). She worked on new developing product platforms for novel synthetic ceramics for orthopedic devices, scale-up manufacturing, clinical and regulatory strategy, and business development. Her work led to the regulatory approval of NanOssTM, a synthetic calcium phosphate. Joanna has also been actively involved in supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s research initiatives. She was selected as a 2008 Fellow of the Startup Leadership Program in Boston.

Lilly MacEachern is the founder of HealthSimpl, an online community dedicated to supporting consumers and their families in the health decision-making process. Lilly has worked extensively across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors and is passionate about improving health and economic outcomes on a national scale. Lilly has previously authored several publications on health insurance and has also served on a number of health related commissions, including being a Mayoral Appointee in Washington D.C. Lilly has long been interested in entrepreneurship and technology, having gotten her start inventing random products like toothbrush stands in elementary school to later learning about modems and motherboards while building computers with her father. In college, she created her own major in health policy at UC Berkeley. Lilly continued to pursue an entrepreneurial track in graduate school at Carnegie Mellon, where she designed Tepper’s first study abroad trip focused on innovation in the Middle East. Lilly has placed in a number of different competitions including Carnegie Mellon’s Social Entrepreneurship Competition and the eCommerce Hackathon in NYC. Lilly is also on the Startup Weekend organizing team. In her free time, Lilly enjoys playwriting, learning new gluten free recipes, and being an art and digital design agent. Lillian holds a Bachelors in Health Policy from UC Berkeley and MBA from Carnegie Mellon. She is a 2013 Fellow in the Startup Leadership Program in New York.

Megan McGill

Megan McGill is the co-founder and CEO of DiabeticWin, a mobile gaming app for patients with diabetes. She is also currently an MD/PhD candidate at NYU School of Medicine in the department of biomedical imaging and studies neuroimaging in patients with epilepsy. Megan is the author of 10 peer-reviewed publications and is the recipient of American Epilepsy Society (AES) and Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures (FACES) grants. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude, with degrees in neuroscience, chemistry and music. Prior to medical school, Megan lived and worked in 5 different countries working in the fashion industry. An avid pianist, Megan enjoys playing chamber music and is a member of Chamber Musicians in Medicine. She is a 2012 Fellow in the Startup Leadership Program in New York.

Prabhdeep Singh is currently an associate at the New York City Investment Fund (NYCIF), a private $115 million civic-focused VC firm that does a combination of traditional early-stage investing, as well as investing focused on economic development in NYC. At NYCIF, he covers investments in healthcare and media, and assists in the bioaccelerator fund that gives $250K seed funds to startups. Prior to NYCIF, he was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley where he worked on large financial sponsor and strategic company transactions with technology companies and large private equity firms. Prabhdeep is also a natural entrepreneur. After working in the back-office of a doctor’s office, he co-founded a business aimed at outsourcing the billing component of small-to-medium sized medical practices. Stan Berkow is the founder and CEO of SenseHealth, a platform for health professionals to create and deliver mobile care plans to their patients to reduce hospital readmission rates. Prior to SenseHealth, Stan worked at the Columbia University Medical Center as a research assistant in the Department of Behavioral Medicine, helping to run multiple clinical trials studying the effects of exercise on the brain. At Columbia, he quickly developed a passion for entrepreneurship, spearheading numerous initiatives that bolstered recruitment for the department’s clinical trials. In January 2012 Stan left Columbia to work full-time on his first and current startup, SenseHealth. Stan graduated with honors in neuroscience from Bowdoin College in 2011. He is an avid distance runner who captained the track and cross country teams while at Bowdoin and is currently a New Balance sponsored member of the Central Park Track Club. Sunthar currently works for the Medical Devices Division of W.L.Gore and Associates as a Design Engineer. Sunthar has also co-founded Nfoshare, an education related start-up based in Delaware which aims to help students study better by connecting student questions with their Professors, TAs, tutors and fellow classmates. He also co-founded Edyouco, another education related start up that incorporates gamification techniques that incentivize middle school and high school students to ask and answer class related questions. Sunthar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master’s degree in Robotics from University of Pennsylvania.
